We can safely say that stress is an etalon of the modern day person’s psychological condition, as increased work, multitasking and financial problems are a common part of everyday life. Overworking oneself in order to cope with the often irrational demands of today’s existence is likely to perturb one’s mental tonus and induce a bothersome, perpetual state of stress. Below are a few signs indicating when one might suffer from this condition.
1. Anxiety
Anxiety is a state of restlessness which makes a person worry continually about an endless array of everyday issues, from important to trivial. It is often associated with sleeping difficulties and with lying awake at night, unable to stop thinking about them. It often occurs during difficult situations such as divorces, lawsuits, illness, debt and so forth, yet can get a hold of people in seemingly normal circumstances where one might worry about daily tasks and errands.
3. Insomnia
When suffering from stress, insomnia is often caused by anxiety. It can appear nightly or from time to time, and usually appears when one has an extremely busy schedule and is unable to rest due to the multitude of tasks awaiting completion daily.
2. High blood pressure
Stress is likely to cause one’s blood pressure to rise, especially in situations one does not see a way out of and is constantly concerned, as well as a result of lack of sleep, repeated overworking and a state of tiredness. The intake of caffeine, which goes hand in hand with all above-mentioned factors, also has a noteworthy impact on one’s blood pressure.
4. Irritability
Needless to say, stress has an impact on all areas of one’s life and keeps them from enjoying socialising and most times family life as well. When one is constantly preoccupied with issues such as work, they are often easily irritable, short tempered and seem to lack patience in normal everyday activities.
5. Diminished attention span
Focusing on one area of life in particular can result in a difficulty to communicate and keep up with what happens in one’s surrounding environment. People tend to be withdrawn and absent minded, communicating when strictly necessary and denying others their attention in other circumstances. When engaging in conversation, they can easily become distracted as their mind shifts back to their main concern.
6. Fatigue
Fatigue is closely intertwined with anxiety and insomnia and can result in not being able to cope with a certain situation. One’s energy level will be extremely low as they strive to keep up with the pace of daily demands and possibly deal with a crisis at the same time. The need to rest may become imperious and combined with the inability to do so, can lead to very frustrating situations.
7. Short term memory problems
When distracted by a problem, one’s daily tasks may be rendered difficult by short term memory issues, which may cause them to be inefficient and as a result of that, become frustrated and dominated by a feeling of helplessness, plus a diminished self esteem and self confidence.
In order to avoid psychologically succumbing to the pressures many face nowadays, it is important to establish priorities in life and keep in mind that one’s health should not be risked towards trying to meet society’s standards
